Domaine Suffrene Bandol Rouge
Back vintage Bandol rouge, drinking in its prime! Bold, earthy, spicy, satisfying savoury red.
Deep purple-black in colour almost to the rim, on the nose has layers of cherries & floral notes that give way to meaty and leafy characters, with underlying spicy tones throughout. Complex and broad on the palate, Medium bodied, featuring flavours of olive tapenade, bay leaf, venison, old leather, and green peppercorn - with a long, spicy, fine grained finish.
Provence is best known for Rose wines, accounting for almost 90% of wine production in the region. Bandol is a major exception to this, being famous for both the Reds as well as their Roses. The king grape here is Mourvedre rather than Grenache and Cinsault. It's a grape known for its thick skins, high tannins, deep brooding black fruit flavours and spicy notes.
Mourvedre 55 %, Grenache 20 %, Cinsault 15 %, Carignan 10 %
Partially de-stemmed, matured 18 months in oak cuves before bottling unfiltered & unfined.
