Bodegas Illana is located in the heart of the municipality of Aldea Buenavista, in the Ribera del Júcar wine region. This is one of Spain’s youngest DOPs, established in 2003. It is located in the province of Cuenca within the Castile-La-Mancha.  It is made up of just 9 producers, including Bodegas Illana. There are 17 different varieties here, Tempranillo and Bobal being the major grapes, grown mostly on deep limestone/clay soils mixed with silt, topped with small pebbles. Illana is a 4^th generation winery, growing 100 hectares of organic vines.

Medium red colour, aromas of boysenberry, green capsicum, and bay leaf. Medium bodied, initially fruity on the front palate with candied red fruit, shifting through the mid palate to savoury black fruit, juniper, and dusty dry tannins.

Illana 4 months: Blend of Bobal, Tempranillo and Syrah. Picked overnight, pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature, separate temperature controlled ferments. After malo, aged 4 months of barrels of 1-2 years old.
