Irache Navarra Reserva
Navarra is a region located immediately East of the more famous Rioja wine region in Northern Spain. The wines have their own protected 'Denominación de Origen Protegida' (appellation), grown on the lower slopes of the Pyrenees mountains towards the Ebro river. Originally most famous for their Rosé wines they have become progressively better known for their rich reds that echo Rioja in style (but at a lower price point).
The quality classifications for Navarra mirror those of Rioja, so the Reserva is the upper echelon of the Irache wines, Made from Tempranillo (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes and matured in American oak for 18 months. Toffee, raspberry, cherry and anise on the nose. Medium body and after plenty of time to breathe opens up coffee and dark fruits, finishing with dusty fine tannins. Will age nicely for a few years in the cellar too.
