The Tokaj wine region is arguably the most famous in Hungary, so much so that it is mentioned in the Hungarian National Anthem. Tokaj has been hailed as the liquid gold of Hungary, quoted in the national anthem, its praises sung by kings, queens, popes, poets, musicians and philosophers.

The Holdvolgy estate is situated on twenty-seven parcels within seven different vineyards in the best areas of the Mád basin. It is one of the oldest cellars in the region, with some sections dating back as far as the 16th century. It is also one of the longest, measuring 1.8 kilometres of tunnels. 

While Tokaj is best known as a sweet wine, and the heavily botrytis grapes are reserved for those wines. However there are also increasing volumes of delicious dry wines produced for the last 20 years. This is a blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű, Zéta, and Muscat, the first two grapes being the dominant native grapes of the region.

"The fragrance starts off as a snow-white petal, with dynamic, citrusy aromas, green apple and gooseberry, boldly pushing the boundaries. As we get to the fresh, yet juicy, crunchy sip, apple continues to dominate, alongside something really special note – the striking, aromatic essence of passion fruit, intertwined with sour lime and then deepened by the creaminess of green banana. Impressive balance, intense experience."  The wine has a rich texture, slightly honeyed in the mid palate, with a long spicy finish. Technically it the wine has 7 g/L of sugar in it, which would make it off-dry however with 6 g/L of acidity makes it a dry wine.

Somewhat reminiscent of a Chenin Blanc, but a unique wine made from native Hungarian grape varieties.
