Fattorio Montecchio Chianti Classico Riserva 'Primum' DOCG
Fattorio Montecchio offers up several 'Chianti' wines, their best fruit reserved for their 'Primum' (premium) versions. Distinctive in their old traditional short and fat bottles, and the hillside villa prominent on the label.
The very best fruit of the estate, from a higher altitude site above 350m and approaching 500m elevation. 95% Sangiovese, blended with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in large oak vats virtually the same as it has been done here for 400 years. The wine is aged 26 months in 25hl casks, and further bottle age before release.
Deep maroon red colour in the glass, offering waves of deep dark sleek fruit with pomegranate, chocolate, raspberry, spicy vanilla. Intense but very fine long tannins. Majestic wine.
The winery recommends cellaring this wine for 10-12 years, it is drinking fabulously well now, especially with decanting.
