Crea Vini's top range of wines are the 'Famiglia Di Tommaso' collection. The Primitivo Riserva is a superb example. 

Old Bush-vines, grown on rocky limestone soils. The grapes are hand-harvested during a misty day, placed in crates that are only half filled, then transferred to the cold room and rest for 36 hours at a temperature of 0°C; at the end of this period
the grapes are pressed: only during night time in order to take advantage of the cold and, also, because the light spoils the must.  The crushed grapes are placed in an insulated steel tank at a temperature of 3°C. After 15 days the temperature is quickly increased up to 13°C; at this temperature the spontaneous alcoholic fermentation starts and lasts around 1 month, from mid-November to mid-December; during the alcoholic fermentation no pumping over is carried
out, to avoid enhancing the tannins. When the wine in the glass becomes clear, the cellarman decides to draw off, usually around Christmas. The first batches are transferred in Slavonian oak of 1000 liters, then as the pressing proceeds,
some French oak barrels are filled, where the most structured wine ends up as it needs more breathing space; the barriques are never completely filled, to prevent the wine from hardening.  After an entire year of rest, a few days before
Christmas, the best ones are gathered in a single steel vat, exposed to the cold at night as an unfiltered wine. It bottled at the end of January during a particularly
cold day.

Inky purple-black in the glass, aromas of fragrant blackberry, almond paste, a hint of vanilla and white chocolate. On the palate very concentrated, with black currant and sour cherry, meaty notes, jalapeno, olive, chocolate dark fruits, and full fine tannins.  A big and complex wine.
