The flagship wine of Chateau Angludet in Margaux, deep and intense - and a fraction of the price of nextdoor neighbouring Chateau.

Margaux is one of the most sought after appellations in 'Left Bank' Bordeaux, with deep gravel soils ideal for making top quality Cabernet Sauvignon.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot.

Chateau Angludet sadly missed out on the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 due to being broken up by inheritance immediately before the assessment.  Their loss is our gain though, as it means top quality Margaux at a fraction of the price.  Next door Chateau Margaux sells for over $1000 a bottle in NZ, and the great vintages a multiple of this again.

Reviews

Robert Parker says:

"Another truly exceptional wine from the Sichel family, a deep ruby/purple color, a sweet floral, blueberry and blackcurrant-scented nose with a touch of licorice, and a nice, fleshy mouthfeel. This is a sexy, mouth-filling and satisfying wine from both a hedonistic and intellectual vantage point. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next decade."

Berry Brothers & Rudd:

What a lovely, rich and fresh wine. Ch. Angludet is always one of the most reliable châteaux. The rich concentration is so generous and rewarding. I love the sweetness at the front of the palate. Good depth, a bit of intensity and lovely tannins that harmoniously combine with an appealing acidity on the finish. Often described as a traditionalist's wine, this is actually rather delicious. Cabernet provides the power here, but it is so restrained, floral, perfumed and flavoursome. Margaux performed very well in 2015 and this wine is reflective of the quality of the vintage. Given that the price is always appropriate to the quality of the wine here, we have no hesitation in recommending it.

Decanter:

Big earthy fruit though a touch leathery, with old vines evident in structure and depth. A serious wine on the masculine side of Margaux. Drink: 2021-2030. 90/100

Bordeaux makes mostly red wines, and is the ancestral home of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The sub regions are driven by soil types, those on the 'Left Bank' featuring bold Cabernet based blends from stony-gravel soils. The Right bank produces more supple Merlot based blends from clay & limestone. From easy drinking everyday wines to some of the most exclusive wines in the world.
