Chateau Beauregard from the Ducourt family has been one of our favourite and most consistent Bordeaux producers.  We now have a modest allocation of their 'Black Label' Chateau Beauregard.

To compare the two, the Black label is produced in smaller quantities (about 20% the volume of the red label), more oak influence including a surprising portion of American Oak (Bordeaux is traditionally made with exclusively French oak).  It's also younger oak with a portion of new barrels. It is a 50-50 split of Cabernet and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from the loamy clay soils of the 'Entre Deux Mers' sub-region of Bordeaux, warm fermented in steel before aging in barrel.

Obvious influence of the increased oak on the nose, with punchy aromas of vanilla, toffee, and black fruits. Quite a juicy style on the palate, lots of dark fruit & the oak influence clear here too, with polished yet somewhat astringent tannins.

Bordeaux makes mostly red wines, and is the ancestral home of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The sub regions are driven by soil types, those on the 'Left Bank' featuring bold Cabernet based blends from stony-gravel soils. The Right bank produces more supple Merlot based blends from clay & limestone. From easy drinking everyday wines to some of the most exclusive wines in the world.
