Bodegas Santo Cristo 50+ Garnacha
Red wine made from 100% Old Vine Garnacha (Grenache) from vines all over 50+ years old in the region of Campo de Borja. Fermented in modern stainless steel tanks, and aged 4 months in oak.
Aromas of violets, baked raspberries and black pepper. Super smooth and fruity featuring stewed berries and a lick of smoked bacon, and a twist of roasted green herbs on the finish. Very appealling and being one of our own imports is superb value for money.
The 'Campo de Borja' wine region in Aragon Northern Spain is an extremely arid region - a little over an hour's drive South-East of Rioja and the original home of the infamous Borgia family that came to prominence in Renaissance Italy.
El Imperio de la Garnacha (The Empire of Grenache) is treasured for its abundance of old and low yielding Garnacha (Grenache) vines. It has a very harsh hot climate with very low rainfall, and the cool harsh Cierzo Norherly winds that rip through the region.
