Rioja is arguably Spain's most famous wine region, best known for their red wines made from the native Tempranillo grape.  This pack offers up three classical wines to show a bit more variety of Rioja.

The 'Angeles de Amaren' is a sleek fine example of Tempranillo complemented with small amounts of Graciano- another native but now rare grape in the Rioja region. Plus dark fruit, fine lick of spice, and sumptuous fine tannins.  Very delicious and smooth wine.

A counterpoint to this is the other main grape of the region- Garnacha is better known as 'Grenache' in France and the rest of the world, however researchers now point to Spain as being its origin. Wherever its true home, its less common to see straight Grenache grown in Rioja but when treated with care and grown at altitude it produces superb wines. Baigorri produces this from 65 year old bush vines at 700m above sea level, hand picked and individual berry sorted, offering a curious jalapeno twist and an elegance.

Less known again are the white wines from Rioja, that are slowly coming back into favour as quality modern examples. Made from 100% native Viura grapes, partly barrel fermented to produce a more robust version compared to the lighter tank-fermented styles, without losing the typical savoury tang.
